Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra Eyes - A Simple Guide.

Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra Eyes - A Simple Guide.

Departing briefly from the vintage makeup guides based on the decade, here is a simple guide to a classic Hollywood look, made famous by the irreplaceable and iconic Liz Taylor.

This is a general guide for anyone to do, using their own makeup, except for one important extra:
Alexander McQueen Blue Eyeshadow from MAC. If you can't get it, just try and match it with something of your own.

1. Use a light eye shadow over entire lid, all the way up to brow bone.

2. Apply the McQueen Blue to the outer corner of lids and blend inwards graduating to a lighter shade near  the centre of the lid.

3. Line your lower eyelid with a white pencil

4. Apply liquid liner over your lower lids just under the water line and then smudge with a cotton bud.

5. Apply liquid liner to the upper eyelid, starting on the outer edge. This is the most important part, so don't hurry it.

Now the important bit

6. Add two cleopatra wings from the corner of each eye , stroking the lower wing slightly downwards and beyond the natural end of your brow. Draw the the upper wing upperwards about half a centermetre  shorter than the lower line. Draw a line between the two end points and fill in.

7. Loads of black mascara, and finish with a light touch of gold shadow on the upper lid line.

The rest of the face should be pale, and contour with a golden blush and finish off with nude lipstick, so as to emphasise those eyes.

Finally seek out a Richard Burton lookalike and hit the town.

Now watch Elizabeth applying her own eye makeup.

The 1950's Womans Beauty Salon

FREE IMAGES
1950's womans beauty salon
Here we have an archive film exploring the mysteries of a 1950's woman's beauty salon, and though still run by men - it was the 1950's after all -  there is a noticeable absence of the usual patronizing narrator in this film compared to many of the 1950's beauty instruction films of that era.

Nail care 1950s style
The way to beauty in the 1950's was not the most attractive. But the admiring glances were worth it. The 1950s woman went  to the beauty shop for special facial treatments, bringing a look of health and youth.
A manicurist shaped and polished a woman's nails to accentuate the length and gracefulness of long tapering fingers. Knowledge of skincare and facial structure was something a beautician learned as an apprentice. Her fingers were the tools with which she always worked. The direction in which they moved - the rhythm of the massage performed another kind of beauty magic. The beauty of a 1950's woman's hands were as important to her as her face, hair and clothing - if she was to feel well dressed and at ease.

Kitchen Glamour - The 1950's Retro Housewife

FREE IMAGES
The Retro Kitchen of THE FUTURE !!

This 1950's glamourized vision of a kitchen of the future, might look a little dated now, but back then, anything that was plastic or chrome metal, was considered cutting edge!
Of course this film depicts the fantasy kitchen, as envisioned at the time - funny how we've all gone " old world "  again, now that the future is here ! .In the actual 1950's kitchen of the period, popular colors were pastel shades like pink, aqua and turquoise in tiling, walls, curtains.Tupper wear was everywhere of course - plastic again !

Typical kitchen clothing style of the 1950's
The Modern Retro Housewife

Joanne Massey  in her 1950's style kitchen , from the British  TV series Timewarp Wives is 35. She  works as a graphics application designer. Her kitchen is in the English rose style, with metal units - all very hip in 1950's Britain.

1950's Retro Couple

Dandie and Brian from Bike and Birds , glam it up for a 1950's theme Halloween Party.

There is however something really heartwarming and nostalgic about the 1950's kitchen. Perhaps it was the optimistic outlook folks had about the future.

Sophie Loren - 1950's Beauty Icon

1950s Fashion Secrets  -  The Body Beautiful

It really goes without saying for any woman in the 1950's, that good posture is the key to charm and beauty.
Squared shoulders and head held high give a girl confidence in herself, and she in turn inspires other women.

1. Dont slump and walk head up, spine straight and bust lifted.

2.To stand correctly, keep your chin high and place one foot slightly in front of the other.

3.Sit correctly girls ! Don't twist your legs. Cross them if you like, but sit back gracefully.

So, are you now sitting pretty ? Any woman is more attractive when she sits gracefully. She looks great and feels so much better. Keep your knees closer together at all times. It's ladylike.

The Essential E's of Beauty.

1.Early to bed
2.Eat for beauty - go easy on sugar as its artificial energy prevents your body from naturally producing glucose from the food you eat, which in turn breaks down un-needed fat. Try and avoid in between meal snacks. They add to the bum.
3.Exersise - a plain ordinary walk every day, and when possible a good hike with friends.

" Under" Statements

The " Body Beautiful" is almost complete. Good posture and some sound health habits went into its building.
But the body needs support and protection. And this is where undergarments come in.

L'Officiel de la Mode

Foundation garments.

You may think of something stiff and stodgy like grandma wore. You may think of them as something to poke you with every move. Not at all. Think of girdles and bras in terms of smoothness, firmness, and flexibility. Every woman needs those qualities to appear at her best in everything she wears.

L'Officiel de la Mode

Even if you are slim, wear a step in two way stretch girdles to control your lines. It will not hamper your movements. You will find it improves your posture and makes you feel more womanly. As for bras, select one that gives you a firm contour without being injurious !
